On Target for the Gold

Cassandra World Team

Cassandra “Cassy” Pelton (pictured on the far right), a junior pre med major and Southern Eagles Archery Club President, recently traveled to Lansing, Michigan in December for the 2016 World Archery Indoor Team Trials.  At this competition, Cassy competed individually in qualification rounds and then in head-to-head competition over the three day period to earn a spot on the USA World Indoor Team.

To make the team, an archer has to place in the top 3 of their division and Cassy placed 3rd out of some of the best archers in the US to earn her place on the 2016 World Indoor Archery Team. Cassy will be traveling on a self-funded trip from February 28, 2016 – March  6, 2016 to Ankara, Turkey to compete and represent the USA.  Cassy has also been invited to Guatemala from March 7, 2016 – March 14, 2016 to compete in a World Archery Ranking Championship.  This International competition experience will be invaluable for Cassy in her quest to make the 2020 Olympic Team.

As well as travelling to Turkey, Cassy will be competing throughout the year to earn a place on the United States Archery Team for 2017.  USA Archery selects the top 5 ranked Junior Archers for the team and in 2015 Cassy placed 7th.  This means she is ranked 7th in the United States for her Division.  Cassy will be traveling Nationwide to compete and ultimately attain a position on the 2017 Sr. USAT Team.
