National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)

The NSSE measures levels at which college freshmen and seniors feel they are engaged in educationally meaningful activities that have been associated with high levels of learning, personal development, satisfaction, persistence, and graduation. Many of the student behaviors and institutional characteristics associated with these activities comprise the following five benchmarks of effective educational practice reported by NSSE: (1) Level of academic challenge; (2) Active and Collaborative Learning; (3) Student-faculty Interactions; (4) Enriching Educational Experiences; and (5) Supportive Campus Environment.

Georgia Southern University participated in the NSSE in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2011, and 2014. In 2005, 2008, 2011, and 2014, the University participated as a member of the University System of Georgia (USG) consortium, a NSSE-recognized group of all 4-year USG institutions. Membership in this consortium allowed Georgia Southern and other participating USG the opportunity to compare their aggregated NSSE results and benchmark engagement indicator data.
