International Education Week 2023

Please join ISAP (International Student Admissions & Programs) and the International Education Week Committee for a celebration of International Education Week! From October 30 – November 3, a variety of events will be held on Statesboro and Armstrong campuses to highlight the truly global nature of the Georgia Southern community. Events include a street fair on each campus with international food trucks (with free food for early arrivals!), music and performances, Spanish, French and Arabic conversation meetings, selection of international food options at Dining Commons, and more!

International Student/Advocate Awards

The Office of International Student Admissions and Programs (ISAP) and the International Education Week Committee (IEW) invite you to recognize and celebrate outstanding international students, organizations and supporters through the International Awards. International Award recipients will be announced at an International Education Week (IEW) awards ceremony on October 30th, 2023.

International Student Academic Distinction Award – Undergraduate

  • Student must be a degree-seeking undergraduate student with a 3.6+ GPA on an F1 student visa
  • Student has been academically successful by maintaining consistently high grades, demonstrating knowledge by class participation, and assists classmates in understanding class concepts
  • Student contributes to their field by attending conferences in field of study, assisting a professor in research, presented or working towards presenting research, and/or published/co-published research
  • Student is self-motivated and driven to succeed academically and professionally 

International Student Academic Distinction Award – Graduate

  • Student must be a degree-seeking graduate student with a 3.5+ GPA on an F1 student visa
  • Student has been academically successful by maintaining consistently high grades, demonstrating knowledge by class participation, and assists classmates in understanding class concepts
  • Student contributes to their field by attending conferences in field of study, assisting a professor in research, presented or working towards presenting research, and/or published/co-published research
  • Student is self-motivated and driven to succeed academically and professionally 

International Student Advocate Award – Faculty or Staff

  • Must be faculty or staff (ISAP staff not eligible)
  • Acts as a mentor to international students; international students look to this person for assistance and guidance
  • Demonstrates a philosophy of diversity, inclusion, and engaging with people from different backgrounds
  • Makes intentional efforts to engage and include international students
  • Has made a measurable impact on campus for international students through mentorship, programming, advocacy, and/or improving campus environment

International Ambassador Outstanding Member Award

  • Must be a member of the International Ambassadors
  • Student has contributed to the success of the International Ambassadors
  • Student has remained engaged and actively participated in ISAP/ IA events throughout the course of the year
  • Student promotes and shares Georgia Southern and International Ambassador values
  • Student has balanced his/her studies and extracurricular activities well

International Student Organization of the Year

  • Organization must have a goal or objective of promoting cultural diversity and a worldview
  • Organization should provide through flyers, narrative, etc examples of culturally diverse programming and the positive impact on the Georgia Southern community
  • Organization must be active and registered through the office of Student Activities
  • Organization must be open to all students at Georgia Southern University

International Student Community Service Award

  • Must be on an F-1 Student Visa
  • Documentation of community service including the importance/ impact it has had on the community must be provided
  • Student must be in good academic standing
  • Community Service can be through Georgia Southern or community based organizations

Outstanding International Student Award 

  • Student must be an undergraduate or graduate student on an F-1 Student Visa
  • Student demonstrates aspects of leadership, community service, co-curricular involvement, and academic achievement
  • Student should be recognized for their cumulative time at Georgia Southern rather than just one calendar year
  • Student serves as a role model for the Georgia Southern community exhibiting Georgia Southern values
  • Student demonstrates philosophy of diversity, inclusion, and engaging with people from different background
