GO ARMY ED

The Department of Military & Veteran Services are available on-site to provide guidance, assistance, and referrals to additional on and off-campus services.

TUITION ASSISTANCE CAN COVER UP TO

  • $4,000 PER FISCAL YEAR
  • $250 PER SEMESTER CREDIT HOUR
  • 130 SEMESTER HOURS OF UNDERGRADUATE CREDIT
  • 39 SEMESTER HOURS OF GRADUATE LEVEL CREDIT

The Military Tuition Assistance (TA) program is available to active-duty, National Guard and Reserve Component servicemembers. Check with your local Military Education Counselor to see if you are eligible for this program.

BENEFITS

The Tuition Assistance Program will fund up to 100 percent of your college tuition and certain fees within these limits:

  • Not exceeding $250 per semester credit hour
  • Not exceeding $4,500 per fiscal year — October 1 through September 30
  • Can be utilized during Long Term or Minimester

RESTRICTIONS

TA will not fund your college courses, and you will have to reimburse any funds already paid in any of the following situations:

  • Leaving the service before the course ends
  • Quitting the course for reasons other than personal illness, military transfer or mission requirements
  • Failing the course or otherwise not achieving a minimum course grade as determined by the individual military branches

Getting Started 

Step 1: Log into the GO ARMY ED Portal to select Georgia Southern as your home school

  • Log into GO ARMY ED, and select Georgia Southern GS020 as your home school
  • Complete the required VIA, course planner, user agreement, and degree assessment

Step 2: Admission to Georgia Southern University

  • Complete the Admissions Application
  • Complete all applicable in-state tuition and mandatory fee waivers found on the Admissions Checklist tab on this page
  • Send all documents to Military and Veteran Services

Step 3: SOARS

  • After being admitted, you will need to schedule a SOAR’s session on your selected campus.
  • Make sure you have all your Waivers and supporting documents.

Step 4: Contact MVS

  • Complete the Benefits Request Form
  • Review the Go Army ED Checklist to make sure you have completed all enrollment and registration steps
  • A Military and Veteran Service Department Team member will be in contact with you about your Go Army ED account.

COURSE APPROVAL

GO ARMY ED will only pay the tuition for classes that is in your degree plan. It is the student’s responsibility to communicate these requirements with their Academic Advisor, to avoid potential Fallthrough Courses. Additional Scholarships may be available for Active-Duty Servicemembers who have reached their fiscal year cap for semester hours. Contact mvs@geogiasouthern.edu for more information.

NOTE: If the TA does not cover the entire cost of the class, students are responsible for the remainder, which will be billed directly to them by the school.
